New £20 note released – these are the branches stocking it today

New £20 note - Bank of England
New £20 note - Bank of England

People withdrawing money from cash machines in several towns and cities today may notice something different.

The new polymer £20 note, bearing the likeness of artist JMW Turner, has been released into general circulation. The much-anticipated launch is taking place in 19 towns and cities in Britain, covering major bank branches and other cash machines.

The first locations to receive the new £20 note include London, Manchester and Margate, the Kent town which was frequently visited by the painter during his life and that is now home to the Turner Contemporary gallery.

Despite being issued by the Bank of England, the main Edinburgh branch of TSB will have the new notes, while there are further locations in Wales. These notes are expected to be stocked in cash machines throughout the day.

Demand among collectors and art fans is expected to be high. Banknotes with low serial numbers are expected to be the most sought-after among collectors, but those bearing 1775, the year of his birth, and 1851, his death, are likely to be highly desirable.

Telegraph Money has confirmed with each of Britain’s major banks and card providers which cash machines will be stocking the new notes today. Here are the locations collectors need to head to:
