2013 Leader Of The Year Finalists

The shortlist for the 2013 National Business Awards Leader of the Year has been announced.

The winner will be chosen by both a public vote and a peer ballot of around 40 chief executives and business leaders and will be announced on November (Xetra: A0Z24E - news) 12 at an award ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane.

The finalists for Leader of the Year are:

:: Phil Couchman, chief executive of DHL Express

DHL Express manages 4,000 employees and 1,500 vehicles across 79 locations. Mr Couchman has been with the company for more than 30 years.

:: Richard Cousins, chief executive of Compass Group (Other OTC: CMPGF - news)

Compass Group serves 4 billion meals a year and has more than 500,000 employees. Mr Cousins has been chief executive since 2006 and has more than doubled the company's share price in that time.

:: Harriet Green OBE, chief executive of Thomas Cook (Xetra: A0MR3W - news)

Thomas Cook was founded in 1841 and now serves 23 million travellers a year. Ms Green joined the company in July 2012 and has improved the share price eight fold.

:: Valerie Soranno Keating, chief executive of Barclaycard

Barclaycard has 33.7 million customers and processes payments of £124 billion a year. Ms Soranno Keating joined the company in June 2009 and has spearheaded the shift to contactless payment.

:: Mike Tobin, chief executive of TelecityGroup

TelecityGroup provides data centres for companies telecoms and IT infrastructure. Mr Tobin has led the business to expand from 80 employees a decade ago to 700 today with revenues of £280m.

Over 150 of Britain’s leading businesses, business leaders and social enterprises are finalists in the 2013 National Business Awards of which there are 16 categories. The awards now in their twelfth year are open to organisations of all sizes from all sectors across the UK.
