2021 Golden Globes: 'Schitt's Creek' wins top television award, 'Canadian legend' Catherine O'Hara gets first Golden Globe
While the 2021 Golden Globes were certainly weird this year, between the virtual ceremony and the controversies surrounding the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Canadians had something to celebrate after CBC's Schitt's Creek won for best comedy or musical television series.
The six-season Canadian show, created by Eugene and Dan Levy, beat out the other nominees Ted Lasso, The Flight Attendant, The Great and Emily in Paris.
"This acknowledgement is a lovely vote of confidence in the message Schitt's Creek has come to stand for. The idea that inclusion can bring about growth and love to a community," co-creator Dan Levy said in his acceptance speech.
"In the spirit of inclusion, I hope that this time next year this ceremony reflects the true breadth and diversity of the film and television being made today because there is so much more to be celebrated."
The big Schitt's Creek win was celebrated by people across social media.

I’m so proud of him. Being a comedian is one thing, rewriting the rules of comedy is something else. Love you and your “little canadian show that could” 💛 #SchittsCreek #GoldenGlobes https://t.co/i9zTTdCOAx

Catherine O'Hara also won her first Golden Globe award for best television performance by an actress in a musical or comedy, after playing Moira Rose in the famed Canadian television show.
"I am happily and seriously indebted to Eugene and Daniel Levy," she said. "They created an inspiring, funny, beautiful family love story in which they let me win 100 wigs and speak like an alien."
"From the first read through where no one had to fake a laugh to the final day on set where everyone, except me, had to hold back their tears, it's an experience I will forever hold dear to my heart."
People instantly took to social media to share their support for O’Hara after she won the award.

While O’Hara received her award, the Levy duo weren't as lucky. John Boyega won the award for best supporting actor for his incredible performance in Small Axe, instead of Dan Levy, and Jason Sudeikis won best actor in a comedy or musical for Ted Lasso instead of Eugene Levy. But they both still had a lot of support from Schitt's Creek fans on social media.
