Gone are the days of dangerous tanning beds and baby oil at the beach. The healthier way to get a sun-kissed glow without all of the sun damage is with spray tanning and self-tanners. The latter, of course, can be done at home on your own. The problem? Some self-tanning products are hard to apply evenly, have a weird smell or sticky texture and are expensive. But that’s where self-tanning drops come in.

Self-tanning drops are basically an ultra-concentrated self-tanning solution that you can combine with your own face or body moisturizer to give you a tan in just a few hours. With most products, all you need is a few drops, but the more drops you use, the deeper the tan you’ll achieve.

Isle of Paradise Self Tanning Drops are probably the most widely known product because they went viral on TikTok in the last year. The drops come in three levels: light sun-kissed glow, medium golden glow and dark bronzed glow. You can use them on your face or on your body.

Isle of Paradise products are known for their color-correcting abilities, meaning these drops can help even out your skin so you aren’t left with any dark spots or streaks. However, the brand is also considered a “clean beauty” brand by Sephora, and its drops have a more natural, vegan ingredient list with things like coconut oil, avocado oil and chia seeds.

However, some people have experienced breakouts from the natural ingredients used in Isle of Paradise products. If you fear that you might, you’ll be glad to know that it isn’t the only brand to create self-tanning drops.

A couple of tips before using any of these products: Exfoliate your skin before using and wash your hands after applying.

Tan-Luxe self-tanning products all smell amazing. However, its self-tanning drops are fragrance-free and have a firming complex to help tighten skin. The 1.69-ounce bottle is also a bit bigger than others on this list, so you get more product, but a little goes a long way here. Tan-Luxe self-tanning drops come in two shades and two varieties for face and body. However, on a personal note, I’ve used the body drops on my face as well, and they’re my favorite on this list.

St. Moriz Radiant Glow Tan Boosting Facial Serum is a small bottle at only half an ounce, but it packs a punch. And it’s dermatologist-tested. Based on personal use, it didn’t make my sensitive skin break out at all. St. Moriz’s tanning drops last a while and are great for building up to your desired tan level. However, they’re intended for your face only.

4. SOL by Jergens Deeper by the Drop Serum, $21.99

Jergens is one of the most popular drugstore self-tanning brands, and for good reason — it’s reliable and produces a natural-looking color. However, its latest Sol by Jergens line is made with a “tanning active” derived from natural sugars that work with your unique skin tone to give you your perfect tan. These tanning drops are for your face and body and won’t leave you feeling sticky at all — they’re from an oil-free formula made with coconut water. Mix with your favorite moisturizer, and your tan will last for days. Plus, they have a light, tropical passion fruit scent.

5. L’Oreal Paris Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Facial Drops Fragrance-Free, $16.99
