If you’ve never heard of it, here’s the deal: According to Glamour UK, the term “old money” refers to people who have inherited their wealth over several generations. As for the style, it consists of neutral colors, high-quality basics and often preppy, monochromatic and minimalist looks. The quality of the clothes matters more than the label as well. Some people think this style is classic, elegant and sophisticated. However, others think it’s too basic, boring or even a little frumpy.
That said, the term is obviously classist and exclusionary. But if you like the old money aesthetic, ironically, it’s actually pretty easy to duplicate on a budget. You can build a wardrobe with a few quality basics, including a great blazer, well-tailored pants, simple loafers and a coat you can wear with all of the above.
