As much as we'd like to pretend they haven't, winter temperatures have well and truly set in. The mercury has dropped, and to be frank, it is well below what a summer-loving Australian like me is used to. I am in need of a heavy dose of winter outfit inspiration, as getting through the coming months will require a lot of planning. Where better to turn than Instagram? From images of cosy coats shot among fallen leaves to envy-inducing fluffy jackets and roll-neck jumper combinations, our set of fashion friends definitely know how to make anyone crave winter dressing.
While winter might not be my season of choice, one thing working in its favour is the fact that it provides more opportunity to experiment with my wardrobe. The abundance of layers required to get through the day inevitably equates to an endless number of outfit combinations, and I can't deny there is something exciting about that. I'll be spending my winter weekends mixing and matching my favourite pieces to create outfits that prioritise warmth and comfort but don't lack style. A statement coat and chunky sneakers? Check. A puffer jacket and midi dress? Why not? Scroll through below for seven winter weekend outfits we'll be trying.
1. Knitted Co-ord + Boots
Style Notes: We like to think of knitted co-ords as loungewear that doesn't look like loungewear.
Cos Merino Sleeve Detail Top (£69)
Cos Knitted Skirt ($89)
Arket Chunky Leather Boots (£175)
2. The Double Jumper
Style Notes: Sometimes the weather is so cold that one jumper is simply not enough. Make like Brittany Bathgate and layer your second knit around your shoulders so it's ready to go when the temperatures drop.
Isabel Marant Oladimia Double-Breasted Wool Blazer (£835)
Arket Wool Jumper (£59)
Joseph Turtle Neck Silk Stretch Knit (£245)
Topshop Black Twill Suit Peg Trousers (£30)
Acne Studios Medium Knotted Leather Shoulder Bag (£1100)
3. Classic Trench + Chunky Boots
Style Notes: A trench is great for the summer to autumn transition but layer it correctly enough and you can make it last well into winter too. Add chunky boots to your joggers and you'll be completely winter-proofed.
Mango Classic Belted Trench (£90)
H&M Jersey Sweatshirt (£18)
Topshop Black Oversized Joggers (£26)
Bottega Veneta Rubber-Trimmed Leather Chelsea Boots (£845)
4. The Gothic Vibe
Style Notes: As we're in the season of Halloween, why not make a thing of it and dress like your best gothic self? Take the pleated skirt trend and combine it with a pair of black boots and a blazer. And you can add a puffer coat when it gets really cold.
& Other Stories Single Breasted Hourglass Blazer (£120)
WARDROBE.NYC Release 05 Roll-Neck Ribbed Merino-Wool Sweater (£450)
H&M Pleated Skirt (£20)
Balenciaga Strike Leather Lace-Up Boots (£650)
Arket Long Down Puffer Coat (£225)
5. All Beige Everything
Style Notes: Is there anything chicer than an all-beige outfit? I wager not. It's the easiest way to do luxe dressing in winter.
H&M Tie-Belt Coat (£40)
Bottega Veneta Roll-Neck Jersey Sweater (£715)
COS Wool Wide-Leg Pressed Crease Trousers (£99)
The Row Zip-Front Leather Ankle Boots (£1125)
6. Statement Puffer + Jeans + Sneakers
Style Notes: Bored seeing plain black puffer coats? Good news—there are plenty of different coloured versions around. Opt for the head-to-toe versions in a cream colour and pair with a matching jumper, jeans and sneakers.
Monki Long Puffer Coat (£95)
& Other Stories Linen Silk Blend Sweater (£65)
Citizens of Humanity Charlotte High-Rise Straight-Leg Jeans (£260)
Converse Chuck Taylor All Star 70 Canvas High-Top Sneakers (£70)
7. Beige Joggers + Trainers
Style Notes: There's nothing wrong with embracing the outfit of 2020—the tracksuit. Wear with cool trainers and you'll be ready to head out for a daily walk too.
Vince French Cotton-Terry Track Pants (£220)
Vince French Cotton-Terry Sweatshirt (£190)
New Balance 990v5 Suede and Mesh Trainers (£180)
