Aaj Tak journalist fired for 'Modi is a shameless PM' tweet
Shyam Meera Singh, a journalist in Hindi language news channel Aaj Tak, of the India Today Group, was fired from his post after some of his tweets, calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi 'shameless', went viral recently.
He took to Twitter to write, “I am terminated from my channel Aaj Tak (India Today Group) for writing these two tweets on Prime minister Modi.”

One of his tweets on the PM read, “Who says Respect the Prime Minister. They should first ask Modi to respect the post of Prime Minister post. (sic)”
He even shared the termination letter that was handed to him by the organisation on social media.

His other tweet in Hindi read, “When I write something on Twitter here, some people start tagging my employer. They say, ‘sack him. Why don’t you sack him?’ But I post next tweet with more vigour. I will not desist from writing about this. Modi is a shameless Prime Minister."
Needless to say, Twitter went abuzz with chatter once the tweet was shared.
On one hand, some welcomed the act by India Today:
You are not terminated for writing on Modi Ji.
You are terminated because of their internal policy.

Termination seems to be ok. You had been given two warnings, and about some breaches too. There is a company policy in place, and you are contractually bound to follow the policy, otherwise which the letter suggests that there was a due process followed for your termination

On the other hand, some 'took up arms' to defend him.
Their own magazine couldn’t name MODI while showing the queue of all the dead bodies during the second wave @aajtak we always knew u had no spine

Just a few seconds ago, PM @narendramodi said, "I want people to ask tough questions from the Govt", and here a journalist has been sacked by @aajtak for doing exactly that. https://t.co/H2yVKIYGNZ
