AC Milan 1-2 Liverpool LIVE! Origi goal - Champions League result, match stream and latest updates today

AC Milan vs Liverpool - LIVE!

Liverpool came from behind to knock AC Milan out of Europe with a 2-1 victory at San Siro, as goals from Mo Salah and Divock Origi helped a second-string Reds side finish the Champions League group stage with a perfect record.

Milan needed to win to stand any chance of progressing to the last 16 and went in front through English defender Fikayo Tomori in the first half, to the delight of the home support.

But Salah soon equalised with his 20th goal of the season in all competitions and Origi, who came on to score a stoppage-time winner against Wolves in the Premier League in his side’s last match, headed home Liverpool’s second after the break.

Jurgen Klopp’s side became the first English team to win every Champions League group game in a single campaign, finishing top of Group B with 18 points.

Milan came last with four points in their first Champions League campaign since 2013-14, while Atletico Madrid beat Porto 3-1 in the other game to reach the knockout stage by taking second spot with seven points, two ahead of the Portuguese side.

AC Milan 1-2 Liverpool: Origi helps Reds maintain perfect Champions League record

Liverpool boss explains team selection

22:32 , Matt Verri

“We made eight changes. Alisson is a goalie, so he could play and wanted to play desperately.

“The same for Sadio and Mo. The game they played tonight is absolutely outstanding. The quality they have and the physicality they bring in a game like this, how much they help defensively.

“It’s a mix of fresh legs and then quality as well, and it was a really good mix tonight.”

Klopp’s a happy man

22:30 , Matt Verri

“What the boys did tonight, I couldn’t be more proud to be honest. It was an incredible game, I’m so happy about so many things that I saw tonight.

“Of course in the end that we won the game is great as well, but the performance was absolutely outstanding.

“We defended with passion and good organisation. So many good things I saw, really happy.”

Job done

AC Milan 1-2 Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp’s side make it six wins out six, as they see off Milan at the San Siro.

The home side needed to win to have any chance of making the knockout stages, but they never looked like doing so, even though they took the lead through Tomori.

Salah levelled for Liverpool, before Origi scored in the second-half and that was enough to give them the win.

21:52 , Matt Verri

90+1 mins: Three minutes added on. Liverpool break, and they have the numbers. Keita played in by Williams and it’s a two-on-one.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is in, but his effort is over. As he shoots, he is absolutely cleaned out by Hernandez. Really painful one.

Woltman and Bradley coming on for Liverpool, they’ll get a couple of minutes of European action.

21:48 , Matt Verri

88 mins: Milan break again, and Ibrahimovic plays it wide to Messias.

Slipped through to Kessie who looks to be through once again, but Konate gets back well to win it. Klopp not happy with Fabinho, who initially gave it away.

21:46 , Matt Verri

85 mins: Ibrahimovic is taking matters into his own hands now. Ball comes in and he brings out the bicycle kick... dribbles wide.

Kessie is then clean through on goal, has to score... SAVED. Alisson stands tall as Kessie tries to dink it over him.

Milan have left it very late, but they’re coming forward now.

21:43 , Matt Verri

83 mins: Ibrahimovic it is, and he hammers it straight into the wall. Out for a throw-in.

The striker flicks on a ball into the box, and it’s into the path of Florenzi is who free at the back post... but he’s also offside.

21:42 , Matt Verri

82 mins: Saelemaekers pulled back by Keita, and Milan have a free-kick 25 yards out from goal.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is telling his teammates to get out of his way.

21:40 , Matt Verri

79 mins: Tsimikas turns two Milan defenders and gets himself some space to put the ball into the box.

Bobbles up though, and he slices it out for a goal-kick. Origi coming off for Liverpool, with Fabinho on in his place.

21:37 , Matt Verri

77 mins: Hernandez looks to have got free down the right, past Joe Gomez who has slotted in at right-back.

But his ball into the box is too close to Alisson, and the goalkeeper can easily catch it.

21:35 , Matt Verri

75 mins: No pace at all to the game now. Liverpool content to just knock it around, and Milan still struggling to get anywhere near them.

As it stands, the Italian side will finish bottom of the group and have no European football after Christmas.

21:33 , Matt Verri

72 mins: Milan don’t look like staging any sort of late comeback at the San Siro, they just haven’t been good enough to trouble even a much-changed Liverpool side.

21:29 , Matt Verri

69 mins: Wow, Phillips with an outrageous display of calmness at the back. Ball drops to him in his own box, and with two Milan players charging at him he just flicks his way out of trouble to keep possession and bring it out.

Origi is then completely free in the box, but Liverpool waste the chance.

21:28 , Matt Verri

67 mins: Alisson a little too composed on the ball, and he has Messias really putting the pressure on. Just about finds the space to scoop it away from trouble.

Ibrahimovic then doesn’t have the pace to beat Konate, but he wins a corner for his side.

21:25 , Matt Verri

64 mins: Mo Salah will get about 25 minutes of rest. He jogs off, and is replaced by Keita. Klopp also brings off Mane, with Joe Gomez on in his place.

That last one is not exactly a straight swap...

21:22 , Matt Verri

63 mins: Liverpool cutting through Milan at will now. Minamino to Salah, and his right-footed strike is deflected behind for a corner.

Tomori wins it and clears for the home side.

21:21 , Matt Verri

61 mins: Messias is played in, and he can run one-on-one against Konate. Onto his left foot, and he lays it back to Krunic who has space on the edge of the box. Whipped at goal, but it’s over the bar.

21:20 , Matt Verri

59 mins: Tonali and Diaz off for Milan, Bennacer and Saelemaekers on to replace them.

21:18 , Matt Verri

58 mins: Milan look so vulnerable at the back when Liverpool put any sort of pressure on them.

Atletico have taken the lead against Porto, Griezmann with the goal. As it stands, they are going through.

GOAL! AC Milan 1-2 Liverpool | Divock Origi 55'

21:16 , Matt Verri

Tomori with a loose touch as the ball is played to him, and Mane is onto it in a flash.

Shot from a tight angle is palmed back out by the goalkeeper, but Origi is there to head it home and put his side in front.

21:15 , Matt Verri

54 mins: Salah has a shot easily saved, after he pounced on a loose ball.

Williams with a powerful run forward, and now he’s down in the box as Tonali comes across. Definitely no penalty there. But Liverpool win it back, and now they do have a free-kick in a good position.

Keeper half away, and then Origi fouls him. Well Maignan runs straight into Origi, and he gets the foul.

21:12 , Matt Verri

52 mins: Corner for Milan. They’re starting to wake up a bit, as are the home fans.

Taken short, and charged down. Kessie then plays a low ball into the box, straight to Alisson. Waste from Milan.

21:11 , Matt Verri

50 mins: Free-kick taken short, and it’s slid through to Kessie in the box. He goes down under a challenge from Tsimikas.

No penalty given. Milan are furious. VAR checks it, but that’s not going to be overturned.

21:09 , Matt Verri

48 mins: Minamino inside and he has room to drift towards goal. Lets fly at goal from range, but it’s always rising over the bar.

21:08 , Matt Verri

47 mins: Milan with a better start to the half. Messias’ ball into the box is headed back out by Phillips, before Tonali’s cross is straight into Morton’s face.

Liverpool still with the high-line, which you feel Milan could exploit at some point in this second half.

Back underway

21:05 , Matt Verri

Second-half has begun at the San Siro, after a delay while we waited for the officials to appear from the tunnel.

Both sides unchanged at the break.

Salah’s at it again

21:01 , Matt Verri

The Egyptian is certainly a man in form, reaching 20 goals for the season in early December. He’s also now scored in seven consecutive Champions League matches away from home.

How Tomori put Milan in front...

20:52 , Matt Verri

20:49 , Matt Verri

AC Milan 1-1 Liverpool

It’s all level at the break, which is no good to Milan. They need to win, and as it stands that would be enough to send the Italian side through.

Tomori put them ahead after Liverpool made a mess of clearing a corner, but Salah’s lovely finish squared things up.

20:47 , Matt Verri

45 mins: Ball floated over the top, and it just evades Phillips. Krunic tries to bring it down, but Konate gets his body in the way and sees it out.

The Liverpool centre-back has been really impressive in the opening 45 minutes. Two minutes added on.

20:45 , Matt Verri

44 mins: Diaz has been Milan’s brightest player when he’s got on the ball. Plays a ball out to Ibrahimovic, but Konate gets across to clear it out for a throw-in.

Long, into the box.. Ibrahimovic can’t hold it up.

20:43 , Matt Verri

42 mins: Referee is in a generous mood tonight. Let Kessie off a yellow earlier, now does the same for Tomori.

Konate with a good challenge to halt Diaz’s progress. He wants the throw-in, but he doesn’t get it. Just the two shots for Milan in the match so far.

20:40 , Matt Verri

39 mins: Mane is through now, running in on goal... shot is deflected, and into the side netting. Offside flag then goes up, he was well off.

Milan have it all to do again if they want to qualify for the knockout stages.

GOAL! AC Milan 1-1 Liverpool | Mo Salah 36'

20:37 , Matt Verri

Mo Salah has his 20th goal of the season. Oxlade-Chamberlain with great feet into the box, and his shot is saved by Maignan.

Comes out to Salah, and he does brilliantly to keep his shot down and into the roof of the net. Liverpool level.

20:35 , Matt Verri

34 mins: Oxlade-Chamberlain with another shot from the edge of the area, and it’s another Liverpool corner. The midfielder thought that was going in.

Milan have dealt with the set-pieces well though, and once again they clear.

20:33 , Matt Verri

32 mins: Liverpool straight on the attack, and they win a corner. Tsimikas in, Romagnoli away. Origi then gets an effort away, and it’s a sharp save.

Milan had offered pretty much nothing in the opening half an hour, but they’ve capitalised on some slack defending to get the crucial goal.

GOAL! AC Milan 1-0 Liverpol | Fikayo Tomori 29'

20:30 , Matt Verri

Ibrahimovic wins a corner for Milan, and the defenders are up. It’s not a great corner, but it’s straight through at the near post and Alisson can only parry it out into the six-yard box.

Tomori is on hand to smash it into the back of the net. Woeful defending, but Milan don’t care one bit.

20:28 , Matt Verri

27 mins: Liverpool win another corner. Tsimikas with the outswinger... falls to Konate, and he swivels and shoots but it’s blocked.

Milan in no rush to get out still. As it stands, they’ll finish third in the group.

20:25 , Matt Verri

25 mins: Tomori has to get across quickly, as Mane plays in Salah down the right. Puts too much on the pass though, and the English defender can put it behind for a corner.

Tsimikas whips it in, but Ibrahimovic is there to nod it away for Milan.

20:24 , Matt Verri

23 mins: Morton in strongly to rob Krunic of the ball, the young midfielder has made a confident start to the match for Liverpool. Comfortable possession for the visitors, they’re under no pressure when they have it at the back.

20:22 , Matt Verri

21 mins: Corner cleared by Milan. Konate gets back well to mop up a ball through from Kessie, with Messias lurking for any slip-up.

Kessie then brings down Minamino cynically in midfield, but avoids the yellow card.

20:20 , Matt Verri

19 mins: Hernandez has plenty of space to run into, but he runs straight into Williams instead.

Liverpool break with Salah, into Oxlade-Chamberlain and he has an effort at goal. Blocked. Williams then whips in a really dangerous cross, which Tomori heads behind for a corner.

20:18 , Matt Verri

17 mins: Nice pass over the top and Hernandez is running onto it for Milan, but Phillips comes across and slides in to clear the danger.

Relatively uneventful in the opening stages. Milan at some point will have to really go for it, but they’re in no rush.

20:16 , Matt Verri

15 mins: Ball out wide to Tsimikas, and he has time to control it and whip a ball into the box.

Origi making the run, but it’s miles over his head and straight out of play. Not many strikers getting on the end of that one.

20:14 , Matt Verri

13 mins: Liverpool playing with a really high line, and Milan are getting players running in behind.

Diaz and Ibrahimovic both make the run, but the ball doesn’t come from Messias. Milan’s captain Romagnoli down after a crunching challenge on Origi, which seems to have winded him.

20:12 , Matt Verri

10 mins: Tonali does well to keep the ball, and it’s eventually worked out to the left by Kessie.

Krunic drives inside and looks up, but he’s crowded out and Milan have to go all the way back to the goalkeeper. Ball is then played through for Diaz to run onto, but too much on it and Alisson can see it out for a goal-kick.

20:09 , Matt Verri

8 mins: Messias puts it into the box, but there’s no real pace and it’s behind most of the Milan shirts.

Tomori arches back to get a head on it, and it loops straight into Alisson’s arms.

20:08 , Matt Verri

7 mins: Krunic gets in front of Williams, but the Liverpool man has already committed and he brings the Milan man down. Free-kick.

Came from a sloppy pass from Konate, put his side under pressure.

20:06 , Matt Verri

5 mins: Diaz pushing up the pitch for Milan and trying to put a bit more pressure on the Liverpool defence. Ibrahimovic is not exactly buzzing around, so it’s a bit of a lonely task.

20:05 , Matt Verri

4 mins: Tsimikas switches it out to the right, where Salah brings it down brilliantly. Lays it back inside to Williams, and he has an effort from outside the box with his left foot.

Easy save for Maignan.

20:03 , Matt Verri

2 mins: Liverpool with the early possession, and Williams is seeing plenty of the ball for them at right-back.

Milan happy to sit deep and let the visitors have it in defence, for now.

20:01 , Matt Verri

Milan get us underway at the San Siro. Let’s hope there’s as many goals and as much action as there was in the last match between these two sides at Anfield!

19:59 , Matt Verri

The Milan fans join in heartily with the Champions League anthem, or at least the last two words of it.

Kick-off just a few moments away.

19:56 , Matt Verri

Five minutes to go until we get underway in Italy. Great atmosphere at the San Siro where the home fans are ready to roar their side on, hopefully for them onto the knockout stages.

Klopp’s pre-match thoughts

19:49 , Matt Verri

“We want to give it a go. We want to be lively, aggressive and we want to go for it.”

The Liverpool boss also eases the pressure on Tyler Morton, who starts tonight.

“His development will not be disrupted by an average game in the Champions League. I’m just glad I can give him this opportunity tonight,” Klopp says.

Man for the big occasion?

19:36 , Matt Verri

Ibrahimovic makes his first start in the Champions League this season. He’s played a combined 70 minutes in the group stage so far, all coming off the bench.

He’s got six Serie A goals this campaign though, and Milan will be hoping he can fire them into the knockout stages.

Reverse fixture...

19:26 , Matt Verri

There was plenty of action when these two sides last met, in their opening match of the group stage at Anfield.

Visitors have arrived...

Klopp on Origi

19:07 , Matt Verri

Jurgen Klopp was asked in his pre-match press conference whether Divock Origi would start tonight, which he does, and the Liverpool boss was full of praise for the striker.

“It’s pretty likely (he’ll start),” Klopp said. “Moan is not the right word, but he knocks on my door and we talk from time to time. It’s about letting things happen.

“Div played behind Mo (Salah), Bobby (Firmino) and Sadio (Mane). It doesn’t mean you’re not world class if you don’t start for us. It’s a nice story, let’s carry on from here.

“He’s a positive person. Talented, shoots left and right, really quick, in the air a monster. An interesting package.

“But that doesn’t mean you are a constant starter for Liverpool FC, that is how it is. There are worse things in life than not being a regular starter here.”

19:01 , Matt Verri

So plenty of changes for Liverpool as expected - eight from Jurgen Klopp. But Salah, Mane and Alisson all start, which gives the side a strong look.

Ibrahimovic leading the line for Milan, as they look to pull off the win they need.

18:28 , Matt Verri

A desperate but depleted Milan side against a much-changed Liverpool team makes this one a tough call, but the fervent home backing could help push the Italians to a memorable result.

A 1-1 draw.

Liverpool team news

18:19 , Matt Verri

“We have to rotate, that’s clear,” Klopp said on Monday.

“We have to is the headline. Actually, it’s always like this, you make changes with fresh legs and have higher energy levels. That’s the idea behind it.”

With that in mind, Divock Origi is likely to start, with Takumi Minamo, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ibrahima Konate and Konstantinos Tsimikas all ready to step up from the weekend’s bench.
