Adele has reflected on releasing her second album, 21, on its 10th anniversary.

“Well I never! Happy 10 years old friend!” she wrote in an Instagram post on Sunday (24 January). “It’s crazy how little I remember of what it was like and how I felt a decade ago. But Thank You from the bottom of my heart for letting us into your lives and letting me be a soundtrack to some of it x.”

The album, which came out in 2011, included smash hit singles such as “Rolling in the Deep” and “Someone Like You”. Upon its release, 21 topped the charts in more than 30 countries and became the world’s best-selling album of the year in both 2011 and 2012.

In the UK it is the best-selling album of the 21st century and the fourth best-selling album of all time.

It was the follow-up to Adele’s debut, 19, which was also released to critical acclaim in 2008.

Five years have passed since Adele released her third studio album, 25. The artist’s friend Alan Carr recently gave fans an update on her new record.

“I’ve actually heard some tracks on it [and] oh my god, it’s so amazing,” Carr said.

“The thing is… they change all the time because they’re really rough things. Everyone’s like, ‘What’s it like? What’s it like?’ But I said to her, ‘That voice, it’s like an old friend.’”

He continued: “There are some people in the charts who sound a bit like Adele and you go, ‘Oh, they sound [like] Adele’ and then when you hear Adele’s voice again you go, ‘Oh no, there’s only one. There’s only one Adele.”

Asked whether the singer’s voice had changed following her recent weight loss, Carr confirmed: “No, no, no.”

“She’s still got a chunky but funky voice, don’t worry.”
