This advanced interface can turn any surface into a touch-screen.

Fujitsu Laboratories is developing a next-generation user interface technology that is operated by the touch of a finger or the move of a hand.

Through the use of cameras and projectors, the device can accurately detect where a user’s finger is and what it is touching in order to respond to physical commands and transfer data between the virtual and real world.

As you can see in the video above, the device will also allow users to manipulate digital objects on a three-dimensional plane — Marvel fans may remember seeing an ultra-sophisticated version of that type of tech on the big screen before.

Fujitsu Laboratories is also in the process of developing a user interface that can convert entire rooms into digital spaces.

The futuristic technology “liberates people from the small screens of smart devices, tablets, and PCs” by allowing them to project a “virtual window system” over any space, letting anyone display and share information with simple operations.

New and improved networks like Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband — which is already available in parts of the U.S. and continues rolling out across the country — can help improve the speed and accuracy of such novel devices, with its ultra-fast speeds, ultra-low latency and massive capacity. With speeds that are a whopping 25-times faster than today’s 4G networks in the U.S., 5G can make anything into a reality.
