Aldi’s famous Kevin The Carrot range sold out within 24 hours last Christmas and it seems people weren’t prepared to take the risk of that happening again.

Kevin fans queued in the rain and the dark at 6.30am yesterday morning to get their hands on the life size Kevin cuddly toy.

Even though you could pre-order your carrot - and a selection of his friends - online from 24 November, many shoppers opted to go to the store to pick theirs up due to the long waits to access the website.

Some shoppers even panic-bought a Kevin The Carrot, not knowing what he was, plagued by the fear of missing out.

For something so gigantic, it appears the Kevin The Carrot toy was quite illusive. Many people were forced to go to their local store in a bid to pick one up because the website was overwhelmed with orders.

A Twitter user, who was unable to get the toy for his daughter in last year’s rush, said: “Anyone actually managed to access the Aldi website to see if Kevin The Carrot is there. My daughter missed out last year and it looks like she will again.”

He later posted an update to say that he was 15,619th in the queue to get onto the Aldi website with an estimated wait time of more than an hour.

Hopeful customers gave up on the website queue and decided to jump into the IRL queue instead.

Videos show Aldi shoppers frantically grabbing at the soft toys in Aldi stores across the country. Big queues of people can be seen at checkouts, all with the familiar orange of Kevin brightening up their baskets.

The need for Kevin The Carrot has outweighed the usually popular Elf Of The Shelf trend this Christmas, with shoppers jumping on the chance to get the life-size cuddly toy.

If this is your first time coming across this soft toy range, then you might vaguely remember Kevin The Carrot stealing our hearts in the Aldi Christmas advert in 2018.

The fuss around the cute carrot and his group of friends grew, so we were half-expecting the fever pitch level of devotion many shoppers gave to their carrot quests.

This year, the range welcomes back the whole carrot family the cleverly named, Chantenay, Jasper and Baby. It also includes Tiny Tom and Russell Sprout.

If you’re looking for a larger helping of Kevin et al. there were plenty more than just soft toys available to buy. Everything from pyjamas (for the whole family) to a giant inflatable snow globe to put outside your house in the lead up to Christmas was available.
