Yahoo Finance All 4 Broncos QBs fined for not wearing masks
Three days after playing an NFL game without a quarterback, the Denver Broncos have fined their entire quarterbacks room for putting the team in that predicament.
Head coach Vic Fangio announced the fines Wednesday for Drew Lock, Brett Rypien, Blake Bortles and Jeff Driskel after they broke the league’s COVID-19 protocol by not wearing masks in a meeting. Driskel was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list, and the Broncos placed the rest of the quarterbacks on the list for Sunday’s game after they were ruled to be high-risk contacts.
Fangio did not say how much the players were fined.
“It was a mistake,” Fangio said. “We paid a price for it with what happened in the game. It’s time for all of us to move on.”
Broncos offense a disaster without QB
The Broncos started practice squad wide receiver Kendall Hinton at quarterback in Sunday’s 31-3 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Hinton played quarterback in college at Wake Forest before switching to receiver. He completed one of nine passes for 13 yards with two interceptions on Sunday.
Lock, Rypien and Bortles have since been activated and will be eligible for Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. All three have continued to test negative since their potential exposure, according to Fangio.
Lock, the team’s starting quarterback, apologized on Sunday for letting “masking slip for a limited amount of time.”
