Alligators Found Eating Dead Body In Everglades

The body of a man has been recovered after two alligators were found eating the remains in the Everglades.

Davie Police Captain Dale Engle said the body was discovered in Southwest Ranches, around 20 miles west of Fort Lauderdale, on Monday and appeared to have been at the location for some time.

He said officers were able to scare away the alligators from the body, but they remained near the scene as officers tried to recover the remains.

A dive team was brought in and officers armed with AR-15 rifles were posted to shoot any alligators that approached the area, the Sun Sentinel reported.

The body was recovered at around 10pm.

The Broward County Medical Examiner will try to determine the cause of death.

Sergeant Pablo Castaneda, of Davie Police, told the newspaper: "We want to identify who the victim is and possibly figure out what happened to them and how did they end up here."

Amy Moore, a spokeswoman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, said it was too soon to determine whether the alligators had killed the victim or were just scavenging.
