Am I wasting my money by renting?

Watch: Am I wasting my money by renting?

Renting property can sometimes feel like a waste of money, as monthly rent payments don’t offer any return on your investment.

According to the office for national statistics, in 2017 4.5 million households in the UK were in privately rented accommodation and 35% of them were young people between 25-34.

Renting can give you flexibility, but there are also downsides to not owning your own place.

There are plenty of ways to invest your money, and buying a house is just one of them, but renting may not necessarily be the smartest financial choice either.
