Yahoo Finance Amazon to create 4,000 new UK jobs
Amazon (AMZN) plans to create more than 4,000 new permanent jobs in the UK this year despite the global slowdown.
It said the move, which would include roles in new warehouses in Wakefield and Knowsley, would make it one of the UK's top 10 private sector employers.
The jobs will be permanent and bring the company's total UK staff to 75,000. That is more than people than the UK army currently employs.
The new hires this year will vault the company into the top 10 private sector employers in the UK, alongside the likes of John Lewis and Alliance Boots.

The jobs announced on Friday include roles in corporate and technology functions in software development, product management and engineering, as well as in operations teams.

Amazon's thousands of new UK roles will be split between warehouse work, corporate work in London and Manchester, and technology work in Edinburgh and Cambridge.
The online retail giant is also creating new jobs at its Fresh Stores that use Just Walk Out technology, with 19 open across the UK, including the first outside London in Sevenoaks, Kent.

The hiring comes after the company created 2,500 UK jobs in 2021 as the COVID pandemic gave online shopping a boost.
Amazon also opened four new warehouses across the UK in 2021.
