Yahoo Finance Amazon's Echo Dot is Currently 50% Off in the Prime Day Sale
Good news, bargain hunters! Amazon Prime Day 2021 is here at last, and the deals are going to be coming in thick and fast. We've been keeping an eye on all the top offers on the likes of the Kindle, Fire TV stick, Amazon Ring, Prime Video and Amazon Music over the past few weeks and months.
There are several types of Echo devices that you can use to listen to music, check on your schedule, or even video call loved ones, and they've all dropped in price with a variety of deals available exclusively to Amazon Prime customers.
These offers run until 23.59 on Tuesday, June 22, so you’ve not got long to take advantage of the offers. You’ll need an Amazon Prime account to see them, so make sure you sign up. What's the Difference Between the Amazon Echo Devices?
Amazon smart speaker devices include various sizes and prices, all with the AI assistant Alexa built-in.
Echo Flex and Echo Studio
The Echo Flex is the most basic version which plugs into your sockets at home, while the Echo Studio is the biggest, and ideal for music fans.
The Amazon Echo has all the benefits of a smart speaker, including making to-do lists, setting timers, delivering weather, travel, and news updates, along with streaming music, playing podcasts and being a central hub for remotely controlling other smart items in your home, as well as other Amazon speakers.
Echo Dot
The Amazon Echo Dot is a mini smart speaker spin-off from the retailer's original Amazon Echo. The first three generations of the Echo Dot were small, hockey-puck-sized alternatives to the full-size speaker. However, after the Echo Dot 3rd generation, the Echo Dot 4th generation abandoned the previous design for a spherical speaker, around 3.9 inches tall, and double the height of its predecessor.
Echo Show 5, 8, and 10
Then finally there's the Echo Show 5, Echo Show 8, and Echo Show 10, which are essentially Alexa-enabled tablets with touchscreens and cameras with the benefits listed above. Plus, they're ideal for streaming, video calls, doubling as a baby monitor, or answering your door remotely via Amazon Ring.
The best Prime Day 2021 Amazon Echo Deals
Echo 4th Generation Deals
This is the premium version of the Amazon Echo speaker, which confusingly looks very similar to the mini Echo Dot 4th generation. However, this one is bigger at 133mm x 144m, while the Echo Dot is 89mm x 100mm.
It has bigger speakers, as well as Dolby Audio, and is set up a bit better for connecting to smart devices, thanks to its integrated wireless control hub. It comes in three colours – charcoal, glacier white, and twilight blue. The price on this one has ranged from £59.99 - 89.99 during various sales.
Its Amazon Prime Day 2021 price is £54.99, a saving of £35 on the RRP.
Echo Dot 4th Generation Deals
The Amazon Echo Dot (4th generation) (typically £49.99) is the company's latest smart speaker, which launched in September 2020. It comes with all the functionality listed above and, as we mentioned, it's smaller at 89mm x 100mm.
It's available in three colours – twilight blue, glacier white, and charcoal – and has dropped from £49.99 down to £29.99 for Prime Day 2021, saving you £20.
There is also the option to get this speaker with a digital clock embedded on the side, making it the perfect alarm clock. This version is normally £59.99 but has dropped to £34.99, saving you £25.
Echo Dot 3rd Generation Deals
The Amazon Echo Dot (3rd generation) (£39.99 pre-sale) is a bit more affordable, as it's slightly older, having launched in 2019. Again, it comes with all the functionality listed above, as well as being a bit smaller in size than the 4th generation.
It comes in a bigger selection of colours, including charcoal, heather grey, plum fabric, and sandstone. The deal prices on this one have ranged between £18.99 and £49.99 in the past, but for the 2021 Prime Day sale, it's dropped from £39.99 down to £19.99 – saving you £20.
Echo Flex Deals
The cheapest option for Echo speakers is the Echo Flex (£24.99 which has been reduced down to £9.99), which plugs into power sockets in your house. It comes with Alexa – to share information like news, weather, and traffic – plus it can control smart devices in your home, such as lights and the thermostat.
If that tickles your fancy, you might also be interested in the Echo Flex and Amazon Smart plug bundle (£39.98). However, the Echo Flex isn't the best option for music playback – so you'll need to connect it to an external speaker for that, or buy one of the Echo speakers above instead.
Echo Show 5 Deals
An alternative to the Echo speakers is the Echo Show 5 (£39.99), which launched in June 2019. The device comes equipped with a touchscreen (5.5 inches) and a camera.
This offers all of the advantages of the devices listed above, as well as allowing you to use it as a baby monitor, or answer your front door via the camera when used in combination with Amazon Ring.
You can also use it to stream TV shows, and watch step-by-step cooking guides, plus video calls with friends and family. You can also choose clock faces and pictures to display while the Echo Show 5 is idle.
There are two Prime Day deals on this device, one as it stands, and another that includes a Ring Video Doorbell as a bundle.
On its own, it's now £39.99 (down from £79.99, saving you £40), or you can get the extra security bell for £49.99 (down from £10, saving you £57.01).
Echo Show 8 Deals
All of the benefits above come with the Echo Show 8, but with an 8 inch HD screen (as the name suggests). In terms of colours, it comes in charcoal or sandstone. There are four offers on the Echo Show 8, all with a few extra gadgets to help you expand your smart-home set-up.
The first is just on Show 8 on its own, which was £119.99, but is now £84.99. Add a Ledvance Colour Smart Bulb (E27) to your bundle and pay £89.99 instead of £133.18. If you have more smart tech like lamps that can be controlled by Alexa, you might want to get a smart plug that can control all those gadgets from one place. Bundle up your Echo Show 8 with a TP-Link Tapo P100 smart plug for £89.99, down from £132.98.
Finally, you can bundle your new device up with a Ring Video doorbell from Amazon to help you keep an eye on your property for £69.99, normally £148.99. This allows you to get a direct view of what your doorbell sees and then you can talk to your visitor directly from your Show – you don't even need to answer the door.
Echo Show 10 Deals
It hasn't been reduced for Prime Day, but we still wanted to take time to mention the top of the range Echo Show 10 (£199.99). It comes with all of the benefits listed above, plus it has the biggest screen (10.1 inches). It also has a podium that automatically pivots the screen so it's always facing you during video calls, or while you're watching TV, which is ideal if you like to multitask while cooking, or exercising.
This Echo device comes in charcoal grey fabric and glacier white. It launched in September 2020 and is priced at £239.99.
Echo Studio Deals
While it's not part of the Prime Day sales, again, we can't go without mentioning the Amazon Echo Studio (£189.99). It's the top-of-the-range speaker from Amazon, which features Dolby Atmos and 3D audio.
To get the most out of it, you'll need to check out Amazon Music HD, which features high-definition tracks but is also expanding a library of music rendered in 3D.
