American Crime Story has reportedly found its Hillary Clinton for its upcoming third series, Impeachment: American Crime Story.

Collider reports that The Sopranos and Nurse Jackie star Edie Falco will be taking on the role of the former First Lady in Ryan Murphy's next FX limited series, which will chronicle the President Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky sex scandal of the 1990s.

Impeachment is based on Jeffrey Toobin's 2000 book A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President, which examines the real-life events surrounding the scandal.

In 1998 Clinton faced allegations of sexual misconduct after reports of sexual encounters between him and White House intern Lewinsky emerged. An investigation led to charges of perjury and he was then impeached in December 1998, although he was acquitted of the charges in February 1999 and continued to serve as US President until 2001.

Falco will be playing Clinton's wife Hillary, who remained with him throughout the scandal and is still married to him today. Falco won three Emmy Awards for her role as Carmela Soprano in The Sopranos, picking up another for her performance as the titular character in Nurse Jackie.

Clive Owen has already been announced to be playing President Clinton, while Booksmart actress Beanie Feldstein is taking on the role of Lewinsky.

American Horror Story star Sarah Paulson is playing Linda Tripp, a civil servant who secretly recorded phone calls with Lewinsky in which she spoke about her encounters with Clinton.

Also starring are Masters of Sex actress Annaleigh Ashford, who will appear as civil servant Paula Jones who sued Clinton for sexual harassment, and The Lion King's Billy Eichner, who plays political commentator Matt Drudge.

Production on Impeachment was initially delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, with filming halted again following a positive test on the set in December. An air-date has not yet been confirmed.

American Crime Story previously aired on FX in the US and on BBC Two in the UK.
