Yahoo Finance Amir Khan dismisses Conor Benn calls for all-British showdown: ‘Maybe if he had some belts’
Amir Khan has suggested that it is too early for Conor Benn to consider a high-profile all-British showdown between the duo.
Benn spoke about a potential meeting with Khan before Saturday’s clash against Samuel Vargas, a supposed step-up bout for ‘The Destroyer’ in which he devastated his otherwise durable opponent with an awesome display of power, speed and variety to force a referee’s stoppage within 82 seconds of the first round.
The 24-year-old repeated his call out in an intense post-fight interview with Sky Sports as he demanded a “proper test” after moving to 18-0 as a professional in blistering fashion.
“Give me Amir Khan. I know he’s too busy on reality shows and all that, but listen - if he wants it, he can get it,” Benn said.
Former unified light-welterweight world champion Khan has not fought for almost two years, having picked up the vacant WBC International title with a fourth-round stoppage of Billy Dib in Saudi Arabia in July 2019.
The 2004 Olympic silver medalist has spoken of potentially staging one last fight, with a long overdue grudge match against Kell Brook still in his sights.

Addressing Benn’s call out on social media on Sunday, Khan claimed that his fellow Briton - who provided the fourth successful defence of his WBA Continental belt against Vargas - did not possess the titles necessary to demand such a fight.
“Conor well done. Great kid, wish him the best,” he tweeted.
“At his age I was a world champ.
“Maybe if he had some belts that fight would make sense but he’s got a long way to go yet.”
