Angel Studios, Distributor of ‘Sound of Freedom,’ Raises Over $10 Million for Crowdfunded Film and TV Projects

Angel Studios, the independent distributors behind last summer’s box office sleeper hit “Sound of Freedom,” has raised over $10 million to fund new movies and television shows.

With the new investment, the company plans to expand the Angel Guild, a community of 360,000 members with whom Angel Studios has empowered to greenlight the development and distribution of film and episodic content.

Along with “Sound of Freedom,” a huge success with $250 million globally, Angel Studios has backed the biblical drama “His Only Son” ($13 million at the global box office) and faith-based biopic “Cabrini” (which grossed only $20 million worldwide against its $50 million budget).

“In Hollywood, a handful of elites in an L.A. boardroom decide what the world watches. At Angel Studios, we believe viewers know best,” said Jeffrey Harmon, co-founder and chief content officer at Angel Studios. “That’s why we can’t even consider a film unless the Angel Guild first greenlights it. With over 360,000 members from 150+ countries, the Guild is already in the driver’s seat. Through this offering, we hope to grow the Guild to over one million members. We believe that reaching that milestone will make Angel Studios a true movement, a driving force in the entertainment landscape.”

Angel Studios describes itself as a “values-based distribution company” that backs stories to “amplify light” for mainstream audiences. Members of the Angel Guild choose which film and television projects the studio will market and distribute. Some 104,000 participants across 155 countries have invested nearly $80 million in content distributed by the company to date, according to Angel Studios.

Upcoming releases for Angel Studios include WWII-set biopic “Bonhoeffer: Pastor. Spy. Assassin.” and post-apocalyptic drama “Homestead.” The company reportedly has at least seven movies and seven TV series planned for 2025.
