Anita Rani was getting "real" with fans in her latest Instagram post in which she spoke candidly about having Covid-19 over the Christmas break and feeling "down and grotty" on New Year's Eve.

The Countryfile presenter said that instead of posting a glamorous picture of herself with an inspirational New Year's message, she wanted to be honest about how she has been feeling over the last few weeks to connect with anyone else who has also been struggling.

But Anita added that the moral of her message is that no matter how tough 2020 was and the start of 2021 may be, we can overcome "whatever this year might throw at us next" and make it through to the other side.

"Happy New Year from me and Rafi," the TV star began with her Bedlington whippet pup on her lap.

"I had plans to have a photo of myself with an amazing message [like] 'let's manifest some amazing stuff for ourselves'.

"But the truth is, I woke up on the 1st of January feeling pretty down and pretty grotty after having Covid for the whole of Christmas. Thinking I could wake up and go for a long run and I couldn't. I felt really tired and I have felt the same on the 2nd and the 3rd and then I've had crazy anxiety about the first day back at school today.

"So that's real, and I thought I'd tell you something real about 2021. But the point is, I feel better now. We will get through whatever is coming through whatever is coming next. So Happy New Year, what ever 2021 throws at us we can do this. Next time I'll wear something more glamorous for you."

Fans inundated the star with best wishes, and thanked her for her honest and uplifting message.

"Lovely to see you recovering Anita and Rafi’s gorgeous face, cuddles with her must do you the world of good too," one commented.

"Happy new year to you, one day at a time," another added.

Sending lots of love your way, Anita!

Anita has returned to filming Countryfile for BBC One, which airs later this year.
