Youtuber accused of harassing ex-Tory MP to contest her seat

A YouTuber charged with harassing former Conservative Anna Soubry is standing against her in the general election.

Amy Dalla Mura, 56, who lives in Brighton, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on Tuesday to face accusations she harassed The Independent Group leader Ms Soubry on three separate occasions this year.

Dalla Mura is standing in Ms Soubry’s Broxtowe constituency for the English Democrats, a right-wing party which lists ending “uncontrolled mass immigration” and leaving the European Union as among its policies.

The English Democrats chairman said they wanted to run a “patriotic pro-Brexit candidate” against Ms Soubry, who has been a vocal critic of leaving the European Union and become a target for some pro-Leave protesters.

On her YouTube channel Dalla Mura posted a video outside Westminster Magistrates Court in which she said: “I’m going to do it (stand for election).

“The only thing is I can’t go to Broxtowe until my verdict.

“I have a restraining order.”

The ban is part of her bail restrictions.

She also says she currently cannot mention Ms Soubry on social media, which is also part of the restrictions, and is due back in court on Tuesday.

Dalla Mura is accused of harassing Ms Soubry at “an event” on January 23, during a Newsnight interview in Parliament on March 14 and confronting her again in Parliament on March 21. Yahoo News UK has contacted her for comment.

Ms Soubry, who was first elected in 2010, has been one of the most prominent opponents of Brexit in politics, and quit the Tories over the issue, which she said was driving the party further to the right wing.

She now leads the Independent Group for Change, also referred to as Change UK, and backs a second referendum on Brexit.

Ms Soubry’s re-election campaign team has been contacted for comment.

English Democrats chairman Robin Tillbrook described Ms Soubry as “a remainiac” and added that “it would’ve been outrageous not to have had a patriotic pro-Brexit candidate standing against her”.
