Anthony Joshua’s upcoming world heavyweight title defence against Kubrat Pulev will see up to 1,000 fans in attendance, promoters Matchroom Sport have confirmed.

After a Covid-enforced postponement in June, the Briton will finally put the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and IBO belts he successfully regained from Andy Ruiz Jr 12 months ago on the line against mandatory challenger Pulev on December 12.

The bout -Joshua’s first on home soil for more than two years after battles with Ruiz Jr in New York and Saudi Arabia - was originally supposed to be held at the O2 Arena, but has now been switched to the SSE Arena, Wembley.

Fans are permitted to return to sporting events in small numbers across the capital from Wednesday (December 2) after London was last week placed in Tier 2 of the Government’s new coronavirus restrictions.

Joshua-Pulev will mark the first time that fans have attended a boxing event in the UK since March, with the sport returning behind closed doors in July.

Tickets will be available from 10am GMT on Friday (December 4) via AXS and StubHub, priced at £100, £200, £300 and £500 respectively. VIP tickets will cost £1,000.

“I can’t tell you how happy I am to see fans returning to our live boxing events,” said Matchroom chief Eddie Hearn.

“Whilst the team have done an incredible job over the last 10 months we live and breathe through the energy and atmosphere that a live crowd generates.

“It’s so fitting that they can return for an AJ fight, when through the last few years he has broken all kinds of attendance records in the U.K. and beyond. This is such a positive move for boxing and all sport. Welcome back!”
