Yahoo Finance Antonio Brown says he's retiring yet again
Antonio Brown says he’s retiring from football.
No, you have not been transported back in time to one of Brown’s numerous retirements over the past year. The former Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots wide receiver tweeted his latest retirement statement on Monday afternoon, seemingly out of the blue.

This is far from the first time Brown has said he’s retiring or quitting. He threatened to quit in August 2019 when he was told he would no longer be allowed to wear his favorite brand of helmet during his legendarily short stint with the Las Vegas Raiders (then in Oakland). In September 2019 he retired on Twitter just days after the Patriots cut him over sexual assault allegations. He’s appeared to retire another two times since then.
Brown can retire all he wants, but it doesn’t really count if he’s not playing football, which he hasn’t since mid-September. He’s still being investigated by the NFL over two separate sexual assault accusations, and teams have stayed far away from him. There have been rumors of interest from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who now employ noted Brown supporter Tom Brady, and the Seattle Seahawks as well, but nothing has materialized.
Is he serious this time? Who knows. At this point, it seems unlikely that he’ll ever play football again. The NFL has been investigating him for 10 months and currently has its hands full with putting on a football season amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Brown is far from a priority right now, and if we can trust his latest retirement, football isn’t at the top of Brown’s list either.
