'Are my details at risk because I'm on the electoral register?'

You can opt out of having your details on the open register of the electoral roll - Eddie Mulholland
You can opt out of having your details on the open register of the electoral roll - Eddie Mulholland

I am told my personal details and post could have been compromised because I am on the “open register” of the electoral roll.

How can this happen and how can I stop it?

AL, Merseyside

Information from the open register can be sold on. Details gleaned this way can prompt unsolicited mail. This may then be intercepted and used nefariously.

To opt out of your current details being generally available, tick the “edited register” box on the voter registration form.

Alternatively, you can contact your local electoral registration office, which may be the borough council. Doing this will not affect your right to vote
