In hockey, many players describe the tougher, less-glamorous years of their careers as the time when they were ‘riding the bus.’

For the NCAA’s Arizona State Sun Devils, riding the bus probably didn’t seem like such a bad thing until theirs got stuck in Alaska and they were forced to give the vehicle a (literal) push start.

Yes, that is nine of the team’s members rocking the bus in order to get it up and running again.

The Sun Devils, who are independent in the NCAA’s men’s hockey D-1, do not belong to any specific conference. The team was headed north to take on the Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks for a pair of matches on Nov. 8 and Nov. 9 when their mode of transportation stopped moving.

The temperature in Tempe, Arizona — the location of Arizona State’s main campus — was 24 C on Friday. Meanwhile in Fairbanks, Alaska, it was -9 C.
