David Luiz has not given up hope of playing for Arsenal again this season.

The defender has been out of action since earlier this month after coming off during the win at Newcastle with a hamstring issue.

Luiz has been working hard to get fit since then and is hoping he could feature against Crystal Palace or Brighton next week.

The 34-year-old has battled with fitness issues throughout the campaign and had to undergo knee surgery earlier this year.

The Brazilian’s long-term future at Arsenal is yet to be resolved, with his current contract due to expire at the end of the season.

Both the centre-back and the club are yet to decide whether he will stay beyond the summer.

Luiz wants to go into coaching at some point in the future, while he has also previously expressed a desire to play for Benfica again before he retires.

Arsenal are also due to assess fellow defender Hector Bellerin over the weekend after he came off injured during the win at Chelsea on Wednesday.

The Spaniard was introduced in the 65th minute as a substitute, but he had to come off before full-time after appearing to injure his knee when stretching for a ball.
