Some Audioboom Group (LON:BOOM) Shareholders Have Taken A Painful 73% Share Price Drop

We're definitely into long term investing, but some companies are simply bad investments over any time frame. We really hate to see fellow investors lose their hard-earned money. For example, we sympathize with anyone who was caught holding Audioboom Group plc (LON:BOOM) during the five years that saw its share price drop a whopping 73%. On top of that, the share price has dropped a further 15% in a month.

Audioboom Group isn't currently profitable, so most analysts would look to revenue growth to get an idea of how fast the underlying business is growing. Shareholders of unprofitable companies usually expect strong revenue growth. Some companies are willing to postpone profitability to grow revenue faster, but in that case one does expect good top-line growth.

Over five years, Audioboom Group grew its revenue at 70% per year. That's well above most other pre-profit companies. So on the face of it we're really surprised to see the share price has averaged a fall of 23% each year, in the same time period. It could be that the stock was over-hyped before. We'd recommend carefully checking for indications of future growth - and balance sheet threats - before considering a purchase.

We like that insiders have been buying shares in the last twelve months. Even so, future earnings will be far more important to whether current shareholders make money. So it makes a lot of sense to check out what analysts think Audioboom Group will earn in the future (free profit forecasts).

A Different Perspective

We regret to report that Audioboom Group shareholders are down 14% for the year. Unfortunately, that's worse than the broader market decline of 2.4%. However, it could simply be that the share price has been impacted by broader market jitters. It might be worth keeping an eye on the fundamentals, in case there's a good opportunity. Unfortunately, longer term shareholders are suffering worse, given the loss of 23% doled out over the last five years. We'd need to see some sustained improvements in the key metrics before we could muster much enthusiasm.
