Augusta National to allow limited number of fans at 2021 Masters

The roars will be back at the Masters this year, though a little quieter than we’re used to.

Augusta National announced on Tuesday that it will allow fans to attend the 85th Masters Tournament in April, but only in a limited capacity.

“Following the successful conduct of the Masters Tournament last November with only essential personnel, we are confident in our ability to responsibly invite a limited number of patrons to Augusta National in April,” Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley said via Masters.com.

No fans were allowed to attend the previous Masters Tournament, which took place in November after being postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Masters is famous for the crescendoing roar of the crowds throughout the course, so even a softer roar will be welcome after the eerie quiet of November’s tournament.

Ridley said that they will implement health and safety policies for those who attend, but did not describe what those will be.

“As with the November Masters, we will implement practices and policies that will protect the health and safety of everyone in attendance. Nothing is, or will be, more important than the well-being of all involved. While we are disappointed that we will be unable to accommodate a full complement of patrons this year, we will continue our efforts to ensure that all who purchased tickets from Augusta National will have access in 2022, provided conditions improve.”

Ridley did not reveal how they will choose who to invite to the 2021 Masters, or if any tickets will be available at all. Masters tickets are the most sought-after in all of sports, and they’re incredibly tough to get in a regular, non-COVID year. Getting one this year seems like it’ll require major Masters connections or actual, literal magic.
