SAN RAFAEL, Calif. (AP) _ Autodesk Inc. (ADSK) on Thursday reported a loss of $82.4 million in its fiscal first quarter.
On a per-share basis, the San Rafael, California-based company said it had a loss of 38 cents. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 6 cents per share.
The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 12 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 3 cents per share.
The design software company posted revenue of $559.9 million in the period, also beating Street forecasts. Eight analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $559.4 million.
For the current quarter ending in August, Autodesk expects its per-share earnings to range from 13 cents to 16 cents.
The company said it expects revenue in the range of $595 million to $605 million for the fiscal second quarter. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had expected revenue of $599.2 million.
Autodesk expects full-year earnings in the range of 77 cents to 95 cents per share, with revenue ranging from $2.46 billion to $2.51 billion.
Autodesk shares have climbed 33 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has risen 2 percent. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $138.92, an increase of 24 percent in the last 12 months.
