TikTok users have a 'game-changing' new hack for making 'chips' out of avocados: 'They are amazing'

Are avocado chips the new potato chips?

If you look almost anywhere on social media, you might get a surprising answer. For months and months, users have been posting clips singing the praises of this mega-viral, low-carb snack food.

Can we preserve the Earth while maintaining the thrill of being human?

One major example comes from TikToker @chef.erinmorley. In her video, which drew more than 3 million views, the home chef showed how to make avocado chips with just four ingredients.

The recipe was very well-received. Some users called it “delicious” and a “game-changing” alternative to higher-carb snack foods like tortilla or potato chips.

“Thank you, I just tried these and they are amazing,” one user commented on @chef.erinmorley’s video.

“That sounds wonderful,” another added.

“What? This is a game-changer!” another wrote.

At In The Know, we’ll try anything with avocados in it. So, we decided to test out this recipe ourselves. To see what happened, watch the video avove — or keep reading below for the recipe.

How to make avocado chips

There are plenty of alternatives to this recipe online. Some TikTokers, like @chef.erinmorley, use Trader Joe’s Everything But the Bagel Sesame Seasoning, while others have the store’s equally beloved Everything But the Elote Seasoning. You can also use salt, pepper or just about any spice blend you can think of.

With that in mind, here’s how to make the chips without spices. From here, you can add whatever seasoning you want.

  • 1 ripe avocado

  • 1 egg

  • 1 cup of parmesan cheese

To start, cut up your avocado and then mash it in a bowl. Then add the egg and parmesan and mix everything thoroughly.

From there, lay out a piece of parchment paper and use a small ice cream or fruit scooper to form balls of your mixture. Then, use a spatula to flatten each one into a “chip.” If you’re adding any seasoning, now’s your time! Sprinkle on whatever flavoring you want before this goes into the oven.

Finally, bake these bad boys in the oven at 350 degrees for about half an hour. They’ll be crunchy and a little browned when they’re ready.
