Turns out more than 70% of men prefer AXE’s new fine fragrances over Chanel, according to a blind scent test

If you’ve shopped for cologne before, you know it can be tricky. After testing a few, I usually find they either begin to smell the same or smell bad. However, a few staples in the fragrance department tend to be Bleu de Chanel, Ralph Lauren’s Polo Blue and Versace’s Pour Homme. That said, AXE’s latest fragrance launch is rivaling all of those.

Today, Feb. 23, AXE debuts its new Fine Fragrance collection in partnership with some of the world’s top perfumers, including the one and only Ann Gottlieb. You may have smelled her work before — Gottlieb has worked with Dior, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Carolina Herera, Victoria’s Secret and more on their signature scents. That’s probably why, according to the brand, 73% of guys said they preferred the new AXE fragrances over the three luxury options mentioned above in a blind scent test.

This scent features notes of cedarwood, eucalyptus, oakmoss, coconut and vanilla.

The Fine Fragrance collection includes five scents: Blue Lavender, Aqua Bergamot, Green Geranium, Golden Mango and Pure Coconut. Each one is available as the brand’s signature body spray-deodorant hybrid, as a stick deodorant and shower gel.

If you already like the scent of Bleu de Chanel, you’ll probably love AXE’s Pure Coconut. It has notes of oak and cedarwood, a refreshing zing of eucalyptus and warming notes of raw coconut, oakmoss and vanilla. (Just to compare, Bleu de Chanel is best described as a woody, citrus and warm amber scent.)

The best part of the launch, however, is that AXE’s Fine Fragrance line is affordable. Each product retails for less than $8 at stores like Amazon, Walmart, CVS, Kroger, HEB and Walgreens. Yes, that means you don’t have to go to a stuffy high-end department store to smell expensive.
