Back to the Future's Doc Brown and Lorraine Baines-McFly are set to reunite in an upcoming Christmas movie… and it involves time travel!

Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson will star in Next Stop, Christmas for the Hallmark Channel, which follows a woman who takes a train journey to the past.

"Angie wonders what her life would be like if she had married a former boyfriend who became a famous sportscaster," the synopsis reads.

"She takes the train home to spend Christmas with her family and inexplicably finds herself 10 years in the past. With the advice of the train's enigmatic conductor, Angie has the chance to revisit that Christmas and learn what – and who – is truly important to her."

The TV movie is also set to star How I Met Your Mother's Lyndsy Fonseca and Days of Our Lives' Chandler Massey, and is set to debut on November 6.

Lloyd famously played eccentric scientist and Marty McFly's (Michael J Fox) mentor Doc Brown in the Back to the Future series, while Thompson portrayed the youngster's mother Lorraine.

However, it seems like Next Stop, Christmas is the closest we'll get to a fourth Back to the Future movie, with writer Bob Gale ruling out another big screen adventure last year.

"We already made a lot of money," he said, speaking on studio executives' attempts at persuasion. "You know, you don't sell your kids into prostitution. It was the wrong thing to do. We put 'The End' at the end of part three."

As well as Next Stop, Christmas, Lloyd recently appeared in a live-action trailer for Rick and Morty, taking on the role of Rick Sanchez – who is himself partly based on Doc Brown.

In the clip, Knives Out and It actor Jaeden Martell plays Morty as the two hop out of a portal in a real-life replica of Rick's garage.

Back to the Future: The Musical is now playing at London's Adelphi Theatre until February 13, 2022.
