Barcelona troll Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo with Lionel Messi 'GOAT' tweet after Champions League win

Barcelona could not resist a playful dig at Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo following their Champions League victory.

The LaLiga giants came out on top in a heavyweight Group G tussle on Wednesday night, with Ousmane Dembele and Lionel Messi providing the goals in an impressive 2-0 victory for Ronald Koeman's side in Turin as Juve saw defender Merih Demiral sent off.

It was a timely victory for Barcelona, whose behind-the-scenes unrest has continued this week with the resignation of president Josep Maria Bartomeu and the club's entire board of directors, which came shortly after a punishing El Clasico defeat to fierce rivals Real Madrid.

And the Blaugrana's social media team were clearly feeling in playful mood as they tweeted out a picture of man-of-the-match Messi in action along with the tagline: "We were glad you were able to see the Goat in action on your pitch, @juventusfcen!"

That is of course an obvious reference to the age-old Messi vs Ronaldo debate, in which fans endlessly debate the merits of each superstar to carry the mantle of the greatest footballer in history.

Fans missed out on a potential reunion between the great rivals on Wednesday, however, with Ronaldo a notable absentee for reigning Serie A champions Juventus.

The Portuguese tested positive for Covid-19 while on international duty on October 13 and had hoped to return against Barca, though was ultimately ruled out.

He will hope to renew his rivalry with Messi and reaffirm his own case for 'GOAT' status when Juventus travel to Camp Nou for the return fixture on December 8.
