Bayern players take turns emulating Robert Lewandowski in his absence during four-goal first half (video)

Robert Lewandowski’s going to be out four weeks. Bayern Munich’s going to have to find some scoring.

For one game at least, it’s going to be OK.

Bayern scored four goals in the first half Saturday and beat Hoffenheim 6-0, and the deluge started in less than two minutes.

Serge Gnabry, who scored twice in the midweek Champions League win at Chelsea, during which Lewandowski suffered a knee injury, chased down a long cross from Thomas Müller and knocked it back into the middle.

It took a fortunate deflection off Hoffenheim keeper Oliver Baumann, but Bayern was off and running (via FOX Sports):

Joshua Kimmich scored the second in quick fashion with a nice first-time finish into the lower-right corner, and 18-year-old Joshua Zirkzee later punched home a cross by Gnabry.

Zirkzee’s goal in his first Bundesliga start gave Bayern a 3-0 lead inside of 15 minutes:

Philippe Coutinho, who has seen his first-choice appearances diminish recently, roofed the fourth goal just after the half-hour mark:

Coutinho scored another goal shortly after halftime on a bad giveaway, and Leon Goretzka added the sixth.

Can Bayern keep this scoring rate up? Hardly, but they won’t have to. Bayern’s toughest games in the month or so Lewandowski’s expected to miss are outside the league (German Cup vs. Schalke, Champions League vs. Chelsea), so they just need to tread water until he returns, possibly for a huge Der Klassiker vs. Borussia Dortmund on April 4.

Or maybe score four goals every first half. We’re not here to tell the seven-time reigning Bundesliga champions how to go about their business.
