Beat the Chasers ended its new series with a big win tonight (May 7), as its last contestant took on all five Chasers and wound up winning £100,000.

During the episode, a couple of contestants didn't manage to best the Beast and co, while another didn't even get to go up against them at all as she fluffed the first question and was therefore booted out early.

After earning an impressive £4,000 in the cash builder, Nigel from Poole played a blinder though, as he attempted to bag the top prize with just an eight-second head-start.

To anyone else, out-quizzing Shaun Wallace, Mark Labbett, Anne Hegerty, Jenny Ryan and Darragh Ennis would've seemed a challenge, but Nigel appeared confident and his risk paid off when the Chasers slipped up with a rare 'wrong person answer'.

The formidable team had been asked by host Bradley Walsh to name what film, released in 1981, featured Ossie Ardiles as footballer Carlos Rey and despite Jenny being faster on the buzzer, Shaun interjected: "Escape to Victory!"

While his response was correct, it was rendered void as it should've come from The Vixen – something that cost the Chasers valuable time. Nigel won with five seconds spare.

"That was sensational," Bradley gushed, before asking Nigel what he's going to do with the money.

"Well, on the way here this morning, I stopped at a service station and I reversed into a lamp post so I want to get the back of my car fixed," he laughed.

"Now THAT is a way to end a finale! 😱😱😱 Nigel played incredibly and put an intense amount of pressure on the Chasers; to the point they made a fatal mistake," the show took to Instagram to say following Nigel's triumph.

"HUGE congratulations to Nigel on an incredible £100,000 win! Not only can he take his wife on a cruise, he could buy her their own boat."
