This beefy, cheesy Dorito pie is ‘not very beautiful, but very delicious’

This “easy Dorito pie” recipe is a much-hyped savory snack. But it won’t be winning a presentation award any time soon.

A Mexican-inspired layered casserole of sorts, the hearty meal combines ground beef, crescent roll dough and Doritos to make one epic dinner. Of course, you can feel free to swap out the beef with ground chicken, turkey or Beyond Meat plant-based grounds to suit your preference.

Watch along as In The Know’s Katie Mather tests out the snack — and don’t worry if you’re skeptical, she is too.

4 mortgage truths that may surprise you

Ingredients:

  • Melted butter

  • 1 pound of lean ground beef

  • 1 packet of taco seasoning

  • 1 can crescent roll dough

  • 1 cup of sour cream

  • 1 cup of shredded pepper jack cheese

  • 3 cups of crushed Doritos

Step 1: Cook the beef in a skillet. Combine the ground beef and taco seasoning in the pan. Let simmer. Then set it aside.

Step 2: Grease an oven dish with melted butter. Line the dish with the crescent dough to make the pie crust.

Step 3: Add the crushed Doritos onto the crust. Top with ground beef, cheese, sour cream and more Doritos.

Step 4: Bake for 20 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

When it’s complete, the Dorito Pie is definitely not the prettiest debutante at the ball, but she has plenty of character.

“It looks really ugly,” Katie says. “I think it would have stuck together better if I had done several layers of cheese instead of just cheese in the middle. But I did not read the recipe so here we go.”

Before taking her first bite, she’s a bit skeptical based on its appearance and most certainly cautious about its potential hazards.

“I’ve got my Tums handy because this is gonna give me severe heartburn,” she jokes.

But the Dorito Pie is actually worth the hype despite its unconventional looks… Katie gave the savory snack a solid 8 out of 10.

“I have to admit this was pretty good,” she says. “Zero points for presentation, but it was pretty straightforward to make. Honestly, the taco seasoning, I think, makes the most difference here. So overall, Dorito Pie, not very beautiful but very delicious.”
