Yahoo Finance Ben Affleck Recalls Hilarious Moment With Blake Lively Involving Matt Damon
Ben Affleck has been a hot topic of conversation as of late, not least because of his romance with Jennifer Lopez, but because of his recent recollection of meeting Blake Lively.
It's been revealed that the actors, who co-starred in crime drama The Town back in 2010, had an unexpected conversation during filming.
And it's to do with Affleck's friendship with fellow Oscar-winning Matt Damon.
When recently speaking of his and Lively's funny conversation on The Howard Stern Show, Affleck said the former Gossip Girl star was shocked to learn that he was friends with The Last Duel actor Damon.
The 'education' occurred while Affleck was showing the actor around his neighbourhood Boston, where the film - which he directed and co-wrote - was filmed.
Affleck said Lively, who he recalled as being 'terrific' in The Town, 'was really eager to learn from the people and wanted to go around and do research', reported Entertainment Tonight.
After pointing out his house to Lively, which he highlighted was close to where Damon used to live, Affleck recalled her asking him: '"You know Jason Bourne?"'
'You don't know that I know Matt Damon?' he responded to her, before telling Stern: 'This was the first person I met that didn't know. I thought she was kidding, and then I realised she wasn't.'
Affleck, who won a joint Oscar with Damon in the late 1990s for co-writing the film Good Will Hunting, later said, jokingly: 'Then I realised I was a lot older than her and I started having an existential crisis, which has only gotten worse.'
When previously speaking to Esquire about casting Lively in The Town, just over a decade ago, Affleck said: 'The whole movie kind of hinges in a lot of ways on her performance, and I knew it was going to be the hardest part to cast.'
He then spoke admirably of Lively when recalling their first meeting.
Affleck said: 'This girl came in, and no one had said to me beforehand, "Hey, look for this person." And obviously she was really attractive, and so I thought, "Oh, here comes some blonde girl." She came in, did one reading, and just crushed it. Like, Boston accent—really good. I was sort of stunned. I said, "Jeez, you know, that was really f*cking good. Who are you?" She didn’t mention that she was on a television show.'
At the time, Lively told the same publication: 'I surround myself with people I trust, but ultimately it’s my gut.'
Her decisions have led to her landing acclaimed roles in films such as fantasy romance The Age of Adaline, action horror The Shallows and crime mystery comedy A Simple Favour.
Lively was in her early twenties when starring in The Town, and also a newlywed, after marrying Ryan Reynolds. At the time she was also still starring in the popular teen drama Gossip Girl as the privileged, wild and popular Serena van der Woodsen.
Since then, the 34-year-old actor has added businesswoman, wife and mother-of-three to her list of achievements.
