Apple has unveiled the latest generation of the iPhone, including the premium iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.
The devices, Apple's most expensive to date, feature wireless charging and an all-glass design. The £1,000 iPhone X also has an edge-to-edge display with facial recognition and no home button.
The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus start at £699 and £799 respectively and are upgraded versions of Apple's current offering.
The new range of iPhones have record-breaking price tags, and the 256GB version of the iPhone X starts at £1,149. With that in mind, there are many fantastic smartphones out there that rival the iPhone at a lower cost.
And yet, while the iPhone X's features have got Apple fans excited, several of the best ones are present on devices already on the market.
While you wait for pre-orders to open - on September 15 for the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, and October 27 for the iPhone X - here are some of the best Android alternatives.
Samsung Galaxy S8
It is hard to look beyond Samsung's flagship Android handset for an alternative to the iPhone X. The Samsung Galaxy S8 is a beautiful device that introduced an infinity display before Apple. The screen slides seamlessly to the side of the phone and it is water resistant.
The S8 has a fingerprint scanner on the back and facial recognition, while the iPhone X only has its facial recognition software. Samsung's Bixby virtual assistant now has full voice control, like Apple's well-known Siri assistant. But the S8 raises the bar on current smartphones and is probably the best Android phone you can buy.
How will it compare to the new iPhones? With Face ID and waterproofing the S8 draws level on some points, but Siri is a far superior voice assistant for now.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8
Samsung tried to get ahead of Apple by releasing its new Samsung Galaxy Note 8 smartphone a few weeks before the iPhone 8 launch. The Note 8 features a powerful dual-lens camera, like the iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus, but also comes with its stylus S-pen, which can make notes and send live messages and gifs.
It also has a large, 6.3-inch infinity display, although if you prefer a smaller phone the iPhone X is just over 5.8 inches. It also comes with facial identification and has a fingerprint scanner on the back.
How does it compare to the new iPhones? An incredibly powerful Android phone that just undercuts the iPhone X, although many people will prefer Apple's iOS 11 operating system.

OnePlus 5
The OnePlus 5 is one of our favourite Android smartphones of 2017, although most people would be forgiven for mistaking the OnePlus 5 for an iPhone 8 Plus, with its dual camera and similar profile. The OnePlus 5 is one of the fastest Android phones around and has a 20MP dual camera that takes fantastic photos.
It has a stellar battery life as well, easily measuring up to the best Apple has on offered to date. The battery easily lasts 36 hours, but you can probably squeeze more out of it. It comes with 6GB or 8GB of RAM, making for a hugely powerful device. The best part? You can buy one from £449.
How will it compare to the new iPhones? It's definitely going to be cheaper and is lightning fast, but the iPhone X has more innovative features.

HTC U11
HTC's U11 is the Taiwanese company's most powerful smartphone to date. It has received rave reviews for its stunning and colourful design and the punchy 2,560 x 1,440 resolution of its 5.5-inch screen. Inside is an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 that gives the device some serious speed.
It also has its innovative squeezable sides feature, which can be used for taking selfies or zooming the camera. The U11 has all day battery life and 64GB of internal storage, maybe not as top of the range iPhone X, but it keeps the fingerprint scanner and even has facial recognition.
How will it compare to the new iPhones? Like the iPhone X, the HTC U11 has facial recognition software. The HTC keeps Touch ID at a lower price point, but it doesn't have the stunning edge-to-edge screen.

Nokia 8
Nokia's return to premium smartphones brings with it an iPhone challenger. The Nokia 8 has 4GB of RAM and a 5.3-inch screen with dual 13MP camera on the rear of the phone that offers superb picture quality. Its 3,090mAh battery has a solid life of a day and a half.
The Nokia 8 is also the only device on the market that can take a "bothie", a photo using both the selfie camera and the front mounted camera at the same time. It has smooth performance on Android, and is priced competitively at around £499.
How will it compare to the new iPhones? Its standard screen and build quality may not compete with the edge-to-edge OLED of the iPhone X, but at £499 it looks a bargain.

Sony Xperia XZ Premium
If you want a smart design with one of the best displays you can buy, the Sony Xperia XZ Premium is a good option. The phone brings a touch of luxury with its market leading 5.2-inch 4K screen.
It has a gorgeous look with its mirror-like colour scheme, while it also had "Trusted Face" for unlocking your phone by looking at it. On the back is a powerful 19MP camera for taking beautiful shots.
How will it compare to the new iPhones? In terms of looks, the Sony Xperia XZ Premium is one of the best out there, even compared to the new iPhones.

Google Pixel XL
Google's alternative to the iPhone X may be in line for an update, with rumours of a Google Pixel 2 coming out later this year. But the current 5.5-inch Pixel XL is still a powerful device and a worthy iPhone alternative.
The Google Pixel has one of the best smartphone cameras you can buy now. It also runs on the purest version of Google's Android operating system, and will be first in line for the Android O update expected later this year. Other great features include Google's Assistant for voice control. But the fingerprint reader on the back of the phone is inferior to Apple's Touch ID.
How does it compare to the new iPhones? With a great camera, the Google Pixel is a worthy Android rival, and it will have the latest Android O operating system first.

iPhone 7 Plus
If you're not convinced about the Android operating system, the iPhone 7 Plus still stacks up pretty well against the iPhone X and iPhone 8. It has a 12MP dual-lens camera on the back and one of the best battery lives of an Apple device. It also has an aluminium body, which could attract more clumsy customers.
The iPhone 7 Plus is £50 cheaper since the launch of the iPhone 8 and X, comes in a 32GB size, and is available in gold, silver, rose gold, black and jet black. The new devices come in a more limited range of colours.
How does it compare to the new iPhones? With its dual-lens camera that can product stunning depth effects and similar design to the iPhone 8 Plus, the iPhone 7 Plus is a great substitute at a lower price.
