Best desk lamps for your home office: illuminating designs to help you work

With many of us working from home until the end of the year at least, it’s never been a better time to get your home office in order.

While you may have picked out the perfect desk, chair and office accessories to get you into work mode, with the days getting shorter, there’s one more piece of the puzzle to slot into place - the desk lamp.

An essential piece of lighting to save your eyes from strain as well as creating more ambience than your main room light, the humble desk lamp comes in many forms.

For those who are switched onto the latest trends, there are plenty of statement looks on offer, from the whimsical lighting options of Italian design house Seletti to illuminating collabs between big brands, like Anglepoise and Paul Smith. Then there are basic lights, minimal in both form and function that allow you to plug in and power through the nine to five.

Whatever your style, we’ve rounded up our favourites and shone a spotlight on them below.

With an elegant design and a wide range of angles, IKEA’s work lamp is perfect for anyone WFH this winter, whether you’re logged onto your computer, writing, drawing or making. IKEA recommends you fit this lamp with an LED bulb E14 chandelier opal white, and it really goes the distance. With occasional use, we haven’t had to replace the bulb in almost four years. Available in white, silver, burgundy and gold as well as black.

Verdict:

Combining style and substance IKEA’s excellently priced Forsa lamp is the clear winner here. It’s based on a timeless style and the flexible arm and long-life light bulb will see you through many winter WFH days. If we had the money, we would splash out on Anthropologie’s Art Knacky Leopard Lamp for cool cat style alone.
