From Town & Country

Despite the closure of treasured galleries due to coronavirus restrictions, Hauser & Wirth has ensured art enthusiasts can still enjoy exhibitions virtually. Through their website, you can view an array of enthralling artworks, from paintings to sculptures.

Here, we have collated our exhibition highlights, including those that are currently available and those soon to come…

‘Louise Bourgeois: Drawings 1947–2007’

‘Sophie Taeuber-Arp’

A pioneer of constructivist art, Sophie Taeuber-Arp is celebrated for challenging conventional artistic boundaries when she first put paint to paper in the early 20th century. Born in Davos, Switzerland, Taeuber-Arp studied fine and applied arts in Munich. Throughout her career, she explored art in all of its forms, from painting and sculpture to design and architecture, as well as dance and performance.

In this online exhibition, you can now view a selection of her popular colourful, geometric artworks and avant-garde sculptures, and learn more about her life as an artist.

‘Phyllida Barlow: Small Worlds’

Inspired by the 2020 lockdown, the acclaimed British artist Phyllida Barlow has created sculptures that were meant to be displayed Hauser & Wirth Zürich, but will now be available to view online from 6 February.

Created from her home studio in London, the sculptures differ in size, texture and colour, with Barlow taking inspiration from the transformed landscape of London during the nationwide lockdown. The exhibition also features new drawings, which are an integral part of Barlow’s practice; she draws before, during and after creating sculptures.

‘Henry Taylor’

For his inaugural exhibition at Hauser & Wirth, the American artist will take over all five galleries in Somerset to present a major body of sculptural work and paintings. This exhibition, which will be launching online on 26 February, will also feature a series of miniature sculptural paintings created in the 1990s, formed from domestic objects including cigarette boxes.

After spending a winter at Hauser & Wirth Somerset as its artist-in-residence, Taylor has created a number of artworks which will be online to view until 6 June.
