It may seem an unlikely gift for an infant, but Prince Harry recently revealed that the Queen had given her great grandson Archie a waffle maker for Christmas. The Duke of Sussex made the revelation on the Late Late Show to British presenter James Corden while riding around on a double decker bus through LA.
Naturally, searches for waffle-irons and makers have shot through the roof overnight as a result.
Harry said: "Interestingly, my grandmother asked us what Archie wanted for Christmas and Meg said a waffle maker, she sent us a waffle maker for Archie so for breakfast now, Meg makes up a beautiful organic mix, in the waffle maker, flip it, out it comes, he loves it. Archie literally wakes up in the morning and says ‘waffle’."
As kitchenware goes, it really is an outstanding choice from Her Majesty. The devices upgrade a humble pancake to deliciously indulgent heights. While you can make like Meghan and use organic batter, you can also add flavourings and ingredients like chocolate chips to take them to the next level. Have them with sweet toppings or try them with fried chicken drizzled with honey for a savoury take.
First and foremost, you’ll need a decent waffle iron. While we’re not sure which brand the Queen gave her seal of approval, we’ve rounded up the nicest models available now to allow you to breakfast like a royal.
