Best winter duvets

eve
eve

It’s understandable that when the weather’s miserable outside, all we want to do is hibernate under the covers.

We don’t want to add to the gloom, but we’re in for months of miserable rain and anaemic temperatures - even snow is a possibility - as we head into deepest, darkest winter.

The only solution is curling up under the covers until the daffodils bloom again in spring. Dramatic much? Maybe a bit. But it is true that as our hours of natural daylight recede, so too our duvet’s tog ratings must climb up.

What does tog mean?

A tog is a duvet’s measurement of warmth. The higher a duvet’s tog rating is, the toastier you’ll be.

According to the Sleep Council, your duvet should last a good five years, but if you have one with a high quality filling it should last at least double that.

While your lightweight summer duvet may have been ideal for warm, balmy nights, a change of season requires a much snugglier duvet.

That’s why we’ve rounded up the best 10 tog+ wintertime duvets around that will keep you warm and cosy whether you’re having a weekend lie-in or need a blissful 40 winks before work.

See our favourites below

Snuggledown Luxury Duck Down Duvet, Double

Nanu Hot & Not Duvet

If you share a bed with a human radiator or an icicle, it can be hard to agree on a duvet that will work for you both. Luckily, Nanu’s Hot & Not duvet brings peace to the bedroom with a unique covering that’s warmer on one side than the other, allowing you both to drift off in your ideal sleeping temperature.

Available in a choice of double and king size, the seamless split-weight duvet comes in togs that rank from extra cool (4.5tog) right up to super toasty (15tog).

Simply head online to design your dual temperature duvet and wait for delivery.

However, a word of warning; you can only go one up or down from each tog level so if you're a twosome who experience drastic changes in heat you may be better off getting separate duvets altogether.

The stuffing is made up of 90 per cent Hungarian goose down with the remaining 10 per cent made up of small goose feather to add a little comforting weight. It all adds up to an effect that feels similar to being hugged by a cloud.
