Yahoo Finance Biden news: Meghan McCain defends mother’s choice to back Democrat
Following an endorsement of Joe Biden by Cindy McCain, widow of the late Republican Senator John McCain, her daughter Meghan had some advice for both candidates on The View, suggesting that Biden assure moderates that there is still a place for them in party, and that Trump try to “look like a normal, compassionate human being”.
The endorsement came as polls showed Biden narrowly behind Donald Trump by a few percentage points in the crucial Sun Belt swing states of Arizona and Florida, indicating there is all to play for in the battlegrounds.
If Biden does edge ahead and take the election, it's no guarantee of a peaceful transfer of power as Donald Trump refused to commit to a handover if the Democrat won, saying "we're going to have to see what happens".
“We want to get rid of the ballots, and you’ll have a very peaceful — there won’t be a transfer, frankly, there’ll be a continuation,” Mr Trump.
While that hope for peace in a power transfer is weeks away, Biden on Wednesday called for peace among protestors in Louisville after no police officers were directly charged over the death of Breonna Taylor.
Biden said while he hasn't received enough information on the decision to comment fully, his heart goes out to the family. "Do not sully her memory or her mother's by engaging in any violence" Biden said.
Meanwhile, the investigation of Hunter Biden’s former position on the board of the Ukrainian gas company by Ron Johnson and Chuck Grassley has ended with the conclusion that it was “problematic” and that members of the Obama administration “ignored glaring warnings” that it could influence the administration’s policymaking with regard to Ukraine (without proving that it did so)
