Bill Turnbull has accepted an invitation to fill in for Piers Morgan as Susanna Reid’s co-host on Good Morning Britain.

The former BBC Breakfast host was a guest on the ITV show this morning where he confessed he would love to return to presenting with his former colleague, asking “What are you doing tomorrow?”

Reid asked her Turnbull:  "What would you think about, on a day where Piers Morgan perhaps has been incapacitated.

The 63-year-old presenter - who revealed last March he had been diagnosed with incurable prostate cancer in 2017 - replied: “I would love to, name the day. I wouldn’t do it full time. It is a little bit stressful and stress is not good for cancer, but every once in a while would be great. What are you doing tomorrow?”

Reid, 48, and Turnbull worked together on BBC Breakfast between 2006 and 2014. Turnbull presented his last episode of the morning show with Louise Minchin in February 2016.

He appeared on GMB to discuss trying cannabis for his new Channel 4 documentary Bill Turnbull: Staying Alive .

Turnbull confessed: “It was an embarrassing moment actually, I wasn’t expecting that to happen. I was doing a piece to camera, or trying to, and I just couldn’t form a sentence.”

Speaking about its medicinal purposes he said: “On cannabis, my view is that the jury is still very much out. Cannabis has been used as a medicine for thousands of years, we made it illegal about 100 years ago. And yet I think there are lots of benefits we just don’t know about...

“It can have a very serious psychiatric effect on people’s mental health if they take too much of the wrong kind. I’ve seen it first hand, the effects it can have. So I’m not at all saying lets smoke weed as much as we like. On the other hand, if you did legalise it, it would be regulated and the strength would be moderated.”

Concluding the interview Reid said of Turnbull: “I love him, absolutely love him.”
