Billie Piper couldn't listen to her pop songs for a long time

Billie Piper was unable to watch her music videos and listen to her pop songs for a long time.

The former Doctor Who actress became famous at the age of 15 when her debut single, Because We Want To, topped the U.K. singles chart, making her the youngest female artist to achieve the feat.

Despite her success, Billie, now 39, was unable to watch herself as a child performing for many years, but thanks to "a s**t tonne of therapy" she can now look back at her pop career in a different way.

"For many years, I couldn't watch myself as a child in a music video, or even hear my songs," she admitted in a chat for Grazia magazine. "But I can now, and I'm reflecting on it more fondly than I ever have done."

Billie has been thinking about her early years of fame a lot recently because her son Winston is now 13, the age she was when she was plucked from theatre school and put on the path to pop stardom.

"I'm thinking a lot about that time. There are mixed emotions and, honestly, it's all a bit confused," the I Hate Suzie star shared. "I've forgotten a lot of it because I've never worked harder in my life than at that age. It makes sense to me that there's not a great deal I can remember."

The actress admitted she can relate to Britney Spears, who also found fame with her debut single in 1998, and how she was treated by the media and her team when she was younger, as depicted in the documentary Framing Britney Spears.

"I could relate to loads of it, not only because of my time as a musician, but also being a woman and dealing with issues around control and misrepresentation. I'm sure a lot of women can relate on a level that isn't about being one of the most famous people in the world," she stated.
