An “extremely dangerous” paedophile whose victims included a baby who was just weeks old has been jailed.

Christopher Parkes was exposed after a 14-year-old girl told her mother she had been assaulted by the 48-year-old and that he was blackmailing her while asking for sexual activity.

The mother reported it to police who raided his property and found images of abuse including very young children on his phone.

Parkes, of Birmingham, initially denied the offences but later admitted a string of sex crimes.

He pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, two counts of sexual activity with a child, two counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration, one count of voyeurism and three counts of making indecent images of a child.

The crimes took place against three female victims, one “just a few weeks old”, between January 2019 and August 2020, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said.

Julia McSorley of the CPS said: “This was a distressing case and our thoughts are with the young victims and their families.

“Christopher Parkes is an extremely dangerous man with a perverted sexual interest in very young children, including a baby and a toddler. It is rightly so that he has received a lengthy prison sentence which reflects the seriousness of his offending.

“He will now be in prison where he can no longer be a danger to other children.”

Parkes was sentenced to 17 years and three months in jail at Birmingham Crown Court on 21 January. He will also be on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.
