Birmingham New Street: Man suffers 'critical burns' after contact with overhead power lines
A man suffered “critical burns” after reportedly coming into contact with power lines at Birmingham New Street station on Saturday.
Witnesses reported seeing a man “on fire” at the transport hub at around 8am.
Shortly afterwards video posted on Twitter showed an air ambulance landing on the roof of the station.
The man was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition and British Transport Police later said they believed he had come into contact with the station’s power lines.

Platforms have since re-opened but cancellations and delays are expected to last throughout Sunday.
A British Transport Police spokesman told BBC News: "Paramedics and police quickly arrived on scene, and a man was treated for burn injuries.
“At this early stage it is believed he came into contact with the overhead power lines.

"He has been taken to hospital where his condition is described as life-threatening.
"The circumstances of the man receiving his injuries are at this time, not believed to be suspicious."
National Rail said on its website: "Emergency services are currently dealing with an incident at Birmingham New Street.
“Consequently, there are a reduced number of platforms at the station, and this means that that trains may be cancelled, delayed or revised."
