The thought of shopping on Black Friday might send you into a festive panic, but it needn’t be that way.

The sheer choice coupled with the time limit of the sales and ever-growing list of Christmas presents can cause some of us to shun the deals in preference for saving our sanity.

But, what if you could have both? After all, 2019’s Black Friday deals are shaping up to be pretty great already.

This year, Black Friday falls on 29th November, with Cyber Monday hot on its heels on 2nd December. Make the most of the ever-growing list of sales with these expert tips.

Don’t impulse buy

Going sale shopping without a plan is akin to going food shopping whilst hungry. You end up buying a bunch of stuff you don’t need which isn’t very sustainable or cost-effective.

Which? tells Yahoo UK: “Make sure you know the sorts of products you want to buy and how much you’re prepared to spend before you start shopping in the sales.”

Making a list and setting out a budget ahead of time will stop you from being enticed by slashed prices.

Sign up to email newsletters

Sure, it’s a pain to have reams of marketing emails flooding your inbox, but you can always unsubscribe afterwards.

Brands have already started teasing us with emails about their Black Friday deals, and if you want to be in the know, this is a great place to start.

Remember, loyalty card holders often get special discounts on Black Friday, so don’t forget to dig out those cards.

Put finances at the forefront

“If you’re planning on grabbing a bargain in the Black Friday sales, it’s worth looking at how you’re going to pay for your items.” Rachel Wait, consumer affairs spokesperson at MoneySuperMarket says.

“If you need to borrow, make sure you’re doing it in the most cost-efficient way and plan from the outset how you’re going to repay your debt, rather than waiting until the New Year and letting panic set in.”

“You could consider taking out a 0% purchase card, which will help you to spread out the cost over a period of time – in some cases as long as two years. Just be sure to make at least the minimum repayment each month and pay off the balance before the 0% interest free period ends to avoid any charges.”

Do your research

“Look at the price on previous days to make sure you really are getting a good deal and don’t always trust reviews you find online.” Which? says.

It’s recent research uncovered that Amazon is awash with fake reviews, leaving customers to think they’re getting a good deal when in actual fact, they’re not.

If you come across a product or brand you haven’t seen before or if something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Don’t panic

If you miss a good deal - or if you just don’t fancy getting involved in Black Friday at all, it really doesn’t matter.

Which? says: “Don’t worry about missing out on a good offer as our research has revealed that you could be better off waiting until after Black Friday anyway.”

It’s a time of year for merriment, and if sale shopping leaves you feeling decidedly un-merry, then skip it.
