Black Panther star Winston Duke has been lined up to lead new Amazon Studios movie Marked Man.

According to Deadline, Duke will play real-life political activist Marcus Garvey, who founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League in 1914.

Marked Man will be set in the 1920s and will follow a young Black man who joins the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) under director J Edgar Hoover. He then infiltrates Garvey's UNIA organisation, which tests his loyalties as he becomes weary of both Hoover and Garvey's actions.

Deadline reports that Marked Man is partly inspired by Colin Grant's 2008 biography of Garvey, Negro with a Hat: The Rise and Fall of Marcus Garvey, with the script being written by One Love: The Bob Marley Musical playwright Kwame Kwei-Armah and developed by Esther Douglas.

Where is Kyra? director Andrew Dosunmu will be directing the movie, while Matt Jackson (The Trial of the Chicago 7) and Mark Gordon (Grey's Anatomy) are among the producers.

Duke, who played M'Baku in Black Panther and who has also starred in Us and Spenser Confidential, could reportedly be joined by Grey's Anatomy and Little Fires Everywhere actor Jesse Williams and She's Gotta Have It star DeWanda Wise in the movie, as Deadline reports that they are in talks to star in unconfirmed roles.

Although casting has not been confirmed for Black Panther 2, it is certainly a strong possibility that Duke could return as M'Baku following his appearances in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

Also expected to come back are Letitia Wright as Shuri, Lupita Nyong'o as Nakia and Angela Bassett as Ramonda, and Nyong'o recently teased that there are "really exciting" plans in the pipeline for the sequel.

The actress also promised that the cast and crew are "dedicated to carrying on" the legacy of T'Challa actor Chadwick Boseman, who sadly passed away from colon cancer in August 2020.
