Black Mafia Family star Russell Hornsby has discussed the crime drama's opening credits.

During an exclusive chat with Digital Spy, the Charles Flenory actor was quizzed on how it's mentioned before each episode that some events are loosely based on truth.

What there anything unbelievably outlandish that they shot, that turned out to have happened?

"I think when they talk about loosely, I think that a lot of this stuff happened, but it's more of that changed names to protect the innocent, you know that I mean, kind of thing.

"And so I think it's more on that," he said.

"I've learned, and having talked to a lot of people not just with this show, or these stories but others, that a lot of this stuff happened. People are capable and do some dastardly shit.

"And so, you can't be surprised as to the lengths that people will go to get respect, to get money, to get a fix, and to make a point.

"As we all get older, as we live, as our lives get more and more complicated, we realise that people are faced with a lot of dilemmas, and some make different decisions in those dilemmas, you know what I mean, and we've all made I would imagine, we've made decisions and that we are proud of, and some were not so proud of."

Hornsby went on to allude to his college days and those spent on the street: "When you know that, when you live long enough to realise that you go, I'm not surprised.

"You know, I went to college, or you know, I was in the street, you know, I mean, so, yeah."

Black Mafia Family (stylised as BMF) premieres on Sunday, September 26 on Starzplay, available through Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
